Why does my PowerShot SX240HS not focus on the moon properly. I can naver get a crisp picture of it

Because it's the nature of the beast. 

 

You will get the best results by using a tripod, manual exposure, and manual focusing.

 

[EDIT]  ...and a remote shutter release, or make use of the shutter internal delay timer.

It is pretty low contrast. My T6S could not lock on in Zone AF, I had to switch to single point AF.

I have been able to get nearly in focus with using the center AF point, and positioning it on the edge of the Moon.  But,  for me, nothing has been as good as using a quality lens, a quality tripod, and focusing manually.

At F/11 the depth of field was 330m to infinity. That seems to cover the distance to the moon pretty well. 8^)
