PowerShot SX740 HS Won't Turn On, Lens Won't Retract

I have a canon powershot SX740 HS, I was taking pictures and it suddenly powered off, but the lens did not go back inside the camera and it won’t turn back on. How can I fix this? The camera is in good condition, nothing has happened to it, so I don’t know why this happened.

Is the battery drained? Charge it. What happens?

I charged the battery yesterday til full. I took it out and put it back inside the camera, but the camera still wouldn’t work. I charged the battery again to see if there’s something wrong, and it said that the battery is not full anymore even though it wasn’t used. I charged it again this morning and it did the same thing. Every time it says that the battery is full, and I charge it back, it says that it’s not full anymore, but it was never used.

Get another battery. It sounds suspicious. There are cheaper alternatives to genuine Canon ones to test with. This way, if the camera is the problem you'll know without much expense.

Is the camera still under warranty? You could just send it to Canon.

Thank you. I’ve been out if town lately, but when I get the time to fix it, I will let you know if it works.

Hi I am currently dealing with this. I was filming yesterday and I kept getting errors on having to restart my camera and/or remove the battery. Then it turned off and the lens is still out and now it wont turn back on. I just ordered a new battery and hopefully this is the solution to this problem because I cannot find any solutions and help at bestbuy and other tech stores besides getting a new camera. Ill keep you updated if the battery fixes it.

I am also having the same problem...as far as it shutting off. When it first happened I thought maybe the battery was bad. I bought a couple cheap batteries on amazon...and those would also only last maybe 10 minutes. I sent them back, and bought the real deal 65.00 canon battery. It is having the same problem...only lasting a few minutes, even when its fully charged...all my batteries are doing the same. So must be the camera. Anyone know what might be the problem? Thank you

my sx740hs stop turning on and it isn't a battery problem. Tried 2 fully charged and nothing happened.
Before this happened I got a very suspicious question asking whether was I using a cannon original battery with some warnings.
