My powershot SX 60 HS will not turn off. If I remove the battery, of course it turns off. When I re-insert the battery the camera turns on to the page where I set the date and time. I've removed the battery and memory card and held the power down for a minute. This didn't help. I got a tech-support person at Canon, and they did not have any suggestion other than send the camera in for repair. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Have you tried exercising the power button several times from several angles? You might see if it is stuck down.

Yes, the power button seems to be moving normally – it just doesn't have any effect.

Then, it needs to be fixed. I am not sure what you think we can do that the Canon person didn't.

Greetings perryy78,
If the camera powers on to where it is asking to set the date and time, then please to see if the camera functions after setting the date and time. In case the camera functions without issues, but the camera asks to set the date and time again after the camera is powered off and powered back on then there may be an issue with the internal date and time battery, or capacitor and we would suggest on sending the unit to our facility for repair. We would also provide the same recommendation in case the camera does not allow you to proceed with setting the date and time to use the camera to take pictures.
