PowerShot SD870 IS Digital Elph "how do you transfer the photos?"

Hi there! I recently came across the Canon Powershot SD870 IS Digital Elph.

My family has abandoned it for years, but there are still photos on it I would like to transfer...the problem is, I don't have the interface cable or the software disc. I can get the cable with no issue and probably find a dupe other than the one on Canon, but I have no idea if I need the software or not to download the photos.

I checked the website but I couldn't find the software. If you use this camera, how do you transfer the photos? Any help is appreciated. Thank you!

It is best to get a card reader, but if you just plug it into your computer, it may work to get the images

Thank you so much! I am hoping plugging it into the computer works but I am skeptical given the manual...it says software has to be installed first

You do not need ANY software just to transfer files from the SD card to your computer. It's a simple file management procedure. The SD -USB adapter will show up on the computer as a drive.  Open it, look for the folder (DCIM?) that contains the files, and move them to wherever you want them.
