I've never used it, but looking at a picture of the camera: it looks like it's the top button on the round selector thingy. Have you tried pushing that? Or the set button in the center, then up? You should be able to select flash modes from there.

Don't see how, the "round selector thingy" is to focus for close ups- will play with the set button.

The "round selector thingy" works differently depending on which way you press it. If you press on the top of it, you will be able to cycle through the flash settings (On, Auto, Off). If you pres son the bottom, you'll be able to MF and macro mode. Check pp 3 and 15 of your A640-A630 Basic Guide. However, if you're in a full auto mode you won't be able to control it. There's a chart on pp. 143 vand 144 of the Advanced Guide that shows you which functions are available in which shooting modes. It can answer a lot of questions.
