I bought the camera to bring along with me on a cross country road trip. My intention was to vlog and shoot a film with the camera. I ended up making a 52 minute long film with it, but in some shoots you can hear a grinding noise in the footage. My best guess is that noise is coming from the camera trying to focus in auto focus mode. I also noticed it when doing tracking shots with auto focus. If the camera was on a tripod I wouldnt hear any grinding when played back. Does anybody else have this problem?

That sounds like the image stabilization (IS) making the noise. When the camera is on the tripod, the IS is off, so no noise, but if you're hand holding, the IS is on, and it does make some noise.
