CanonG7x mark III: Lens Stuck Out, Not Turning On, Static

amouritay

I just got my BRAND NEW Canon G7x mark III delivered and the second time I used it, the screen began to static (see attached). The issue temporarily resolved when turned off-on. Then I used my camera again and it began to static/freeze rainbow colors and the screen went completely black, leaving the lens protruded (as if the camera was on;

see attached). Now the camera won’t turn on at all. To reiterate, this camera is brand new out of the box.

What I did to troubleshoot :

Ensure battery is fully charged (it is)

Remove and re-insert the battery + SD memory card

Clean the battery + SD memory card

Ensure no moisture was on the battery + memory card port

Greetings ,

Where did you buy this camera?  Was it directly from Canon or a Canon authorized dealer?

I purchased the camera 05/29 via the phone from B&H Photo (Pretty legit). It was a back order so the camera took almost a month to ship (06/27). I know so many people (thousands of people) that have ordered the same camera through B&H as it is in very high demand. Legit and relatable company. Paid retail plus tax. No eBay, Amazon, FB Marketplace, etc.

Greetings ,

I just bought my R50v from B&H.  They are an authorized Canon dealer and are extremely creditable.  I purchased from them and Canon regularly 🙂

Do you have another memory card you can test with?

I'd perform a factory reset and watch the camera closely.  If you notice any abnormal behavior, create an RMA.  Personally, I'd get ready to pull the trigger on a PowerShot V1.  I hope it works out for you.

Scratch that, you're out of the 30-day return window...  You can contact B&H but you're just outside of the return window.  Customer service is usually pretty amenable so I would at least try to call them.

If that doesn't work you'll need to contact Canon.

I've not checked to see if the payboo card has purchase protection.  Check with your credit card company financial institution too to see if you have any purchase protection for something like this.  Trying to get what you have replaced could prove to be very challenging as you are aware.

This exact thing happened to my camera I got last week (from a canon authorised seller). I’ll reply here if I get any helpful info.

I Strongly suggest calling the business that you got the camera from and explaining the situation. Take a few pictures and email them. I was able to get an exchange and should be receiving a new camera.
