Canon Powershot SX610 HS won't go into P mode

Hi guys, I have boughten this Canon Powershot SX610HS digital camera and I have tried to look up how to put this thing in it's "p mode" I was able to find that out, but the switch on the top right side to get it to the bottom CAN move, but it only either does Hybrid Auto or Creative shot mode. So somehow I am unable to put this thing in P mode and it makes me really sad that I can't. Does anyone have any or maybe this is just my camera's fault? Should I take it in to get looked at? I did buy this secondhand but I wouldn't understand why the software wouldn't be on my camera.

Would appreciate all the tips and comments, thank you guys!

Hi BurntCheetos,

On this camera you select P mode through the Scene selection. The steps to do use the Scene selection are on pages 49-50 of the manual. When you are in Scene selection P will be an option, select that, and the camera will be in Program AE mode. If you need a copy of the manual it is available HERE. Once you are on the web page click on the Manuals button and the one to reference is named PowerShot SX610 HS Camera User Guide.

Thank you for commenting! However like I said, Scene Selection (or the switch) won't allow it to go into P mode. The Scene selection switch is on the camera logo, which means it SHOULD pop up all of those options. But won't because it shows the options of when you are in Creative Shot mode. I notice this because when I put the switch into Auto Mode, the 3 boxes (which is Creative shot mode) is still in the top right corner of the screen. Any tips or maybe I misinterpreted your comment? Thank you for commenting again I really appreciate it!
