Don't know the read/write speeds, but the G16 uses SD/SDHC/SDXC and UHS-I Memory Cards, and since the UHS-I is listed, the camera is fairly quick. The USB to computer connection is to USB 3 standard if I'm not mistaken, so downloads to the computer are also quick. Unfortunately, the Canon website and user manual does not give the information that you are looking for.

I think if I use a 90MB/s read/write SDHC card I will have enough speed to handle any situtations I come up against, from inflight birds to slow moving landscapes.
Seems like Canon is keeping this information close to their vest, like a trade secret that cannot be given out. I reviewed the Users Manual also and did not see the speed listed.
