Trying to copy on MX922 from flatbed glass (not ADF) and keep getting "Document in ADF" message?

The copying function on this MX922 multi-function printer has never worked since purchasing. Whenever I try to copy on MX922 from flatbed glass (not ADF) and keep getting "Document in ADF" message (support code 2801). I finally read through all available docuementation and posts about this printer and cant;s find an answer. So I am finally convinced that I am not the problem. Does anyone have any experience with this issue on the MX922?
