MF4890dw lost wireless after changing toner cartridge

lostboydp

Have MF4890dw, had set up and using for over a year, no issues. Had been getting "low toner" message for a while.  Had recently moved wireless router further away, but was printing with no issues.  When toner started printing lighter, changed the chartridge.  Now will not print wirelessly at all.  No error messages on printer.

I wouldn't think changing the toner would be connected to wireless connection in anyway, but it was printing litteraly earlier that day.

Any suggestions?

Hi lostboydp.

Normally, changing the toner cartridge will not affect the connection of the printer.  It appears that the machine may be set for an automatic IP address via DCHP.  This just means that the IP address of the machine will change periodically.  Sometimes, this can cause the printer to stop working, since the drivers work directly with the IP address that was set during the time of installation.

I recommend setting a manual IP address by following the instructions below:

1.  Open the [Devices and Printers] window.

2.  Right-click on the MF4800 Series icon and select [Printer Properties].

3.  Click on the [Ports] tab, and then write down the IP address of the selected port (You may need to click on "Configure port".)

4.  Open the Windows search and type 'cmd', then hit 'Enter'.

5.  In the Command Prompt screen type "ipconfig".

6.  Write down the Subnet Mask and Gateway for your network.

Next, go to the printer and follow the instructions below:

1.  Scroll to [Network Settings], and then press [OK].

2.  Scroll to [TCP/IP Settings], and then press [OK].

3.  Scroll to [IPv4 Settings], and then press OK.

4.  Scroll to [IP Address Settings], and then press [OK].

5.  Scroll to [Auto Obtain], and then press [OK].

6.  Scroll to [Auto IP: Off], and then press [OK].

7.  Highlight [Apply], and then press [OK].

8.  Scroll to [Manually Acquire], and then press [OK].

9.  Select [IP Address] and enter the IP address you wrote down in the earlier steps.

10.  Press [OK].  Do the same for the Subnet Mask and Gateway Address, and then press [OK].

11.  Press the [Copy] button to exit the menu.

12.  Now turn off the machine and wait for at least 10 seconds and then turn the power back on.

It is necessary to restart the machine to take effect the settings.

If you are still unable to print, please move the printer closer to your router and follow the instructions again.

I hope this information is helpful to you.  If the error persists, please contact us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666).
