Recently purchased a Canon LBP674C printer, and while it has been performing satisfactorily thus far, I encountered a low toner warning. Upon reviewing the printer’s usage, I discovered that after printing approximately 400 pages, primarily consisting of text documents with 12 pages containing color images, the black toner level has dropped to 40%.
Regardless of whether the toner warning can be adjusted to a percentage below 40%, it appears from this usage that the printer’s black toner cartridge is capable of producing only 1,000 pages.
Is this an accurate assessment? If I purchase new toner, will I obtain the same number of pages? According to Canon the Black Toner 069 yields "up to" 2100 pages.
Alternatively, is the toner included with the printer less than what I would obtain from purchasing new toner or a high-yield cartridge?
If this printer is yielding only 1000 pages with the regular toner, I would need to consider my return options.

Canon usually includes a set of "starter toner cartridges" with new printers. These cartridges contain less toner than the regular cartridges purchased in stores & online so they will need to be replaced sooner that regular ones. The 674 uses 069 toner cartridges that come in standard & high-capacity versions.
If the 674 has a menu structure that is similar to my MF743Cdw, you can change at what level that the replace cartridge message appears. I don't have the exact path to that particular screen at hand. I will need to do some digging.
Canon gives the following stats for, on the average, how many pages can be printed:

My printer stopped printing when the color toners hit 50%!! I looked at the manual and found the serpentine path that "allows printing with low toner" (for some reason under the fax menu - I haven't even enabled faxxing), but it still won't print. I even tried printing in B&W and it won't print that either! I paid extra for a laser printer because I'm tired of printers not working, now this one bolluxes up only 2 weeks after I purchased it!
