STM lense on 60D?

jaymack

Very new to Canon DSLR's, have a new 60D body and was going to buy STM 18-55 lense but camera store guy said it doesn't work with 60D. Which lenses are okay for camera. I want to start with 18-55 until I figure things out. I've worked docs with big HD cameras but I haven't touched an SLR nor DSLR for years.

Hi, jaymack!

The Canon EOS 60D is compatible with all Canon EF and EF-S lenses.  That means the camera will indeed use the EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS STM lens, right out of the box.

We hope this helps!

Okay, thanks for the idea.  Try searching Canon's website for the same info.

It Stands for STepping Motor.

What didn't seem to be mentioned here, when Canon redesigned lenses adding the STM focus motor, they also upped the image quality from those lenses. If you look at the MTFs for the lenses, most have image quality that matches or in some cases exceeds that of first generation L lenses. STM lenses are one of the best things Canon has going right now. No one else offers the same degree of image quality at that price point
