I'm scanning black and white photos with my LiDE 220. The results are awful: exceptionally grainy, little detail and very noisy. I must be doing something wrong. Here are my scan settings:
The scan is started from the computer.
Using Photo Scan.
Select Source: Photo
Color Mode: Black and White
Paper Size:Auto scan
Resolution: 600 dpi (same result with 300 dpi)
Data Format: TIFF (same result with PNG)
By contrast, Auto Scan started from the computer looks fine but will only save to PDF. Can't persuade the scanner to save to any other format.
I'm using Windows 10 with Canon's Windows 10 driver. What could I be doing wrong?

Hi Bulldog,
Let's start by giving you more control over the image.
Type "IJ Scan Utility" in the search box in the lower left of the screen.
Open IJ Scan Utility.
Press the "ScanGear" button.
Select the "Advanced Mode" tab.
Press "Preview."
If you are happy with the image, press "Scan" to complete the operation.
