When I was trying to video in bright daylight, the LCD screen was almost impossible to see. Has anyone had experiences with shades for camera LCD's for live view applications?

Look into Hoodman. I don't have, but a friend does and is very happy with how it works.

Rashawn, we are talking about video here, the optical viewfinder does not come into play.

I just obtained a hood attaches via magnetics, will only work when lcd is away from camera body. I presume the magnetics effects the lcd switch, when it is attached flush with the camera body, it turns off the lcd screen

I wouldn't use anything magnetic near a modern camera. Too many opportunities for unwanted side effects.
