Pentax Digital spot meter

Is anybody using Pentax Digital Spot meter. I have a question on that. In the manual of Pentax Digital Spotmeter it says when the reading of highlights are taken then put it on 10 On IRE scale and then set the exposure based on speed/aparture combination we get. As per my understanding the spotmeter gives reading for 18% gray reflactance. So I am confused now.

 

Can anybody explain what is the correct procedure to get correct exposure.
