Taking good photos is one part camera, and two parts photographer.  What works for you, may not work for someone else, and vice versa.  I say TRY IT OUT, go with what works best. 

Your camera has different shooting modes and features because no one set of camera settings works for all shooting scenarios.  Try different settings, and learn their nuances.  You just may come up with a better way [for you] to take general shots.
