Exposure Standard

When problems like this:

Come up, we need a way to do a standard exposure test. I suggest setting the camera to P, on auto ISO and take a picture of a scene with little sky brightly lit with noonday sun. Then we can compare the exposure to the "sunny-16" rule to see if the camera is indeed way off in exposure.

Any other ideas?

Sounds good to me. Smiley Happy  I might think ISO at 100 would be better, though.

That is why I am trying to get consensus.

Fixed ISO of 100 is a good idea, it just makes it a little more complicated to explain to newbies.

We were all there at one time.  We all have to learn sometime.
