New to all of this, Canon rebel T1i
I remember the McEnroe commercials and wanting to buy the Rebel in it's debut but life got in the way, years later on a whim I searched and found very affordable versions so now I'm on my quest. I've toyed with mine for a few days and decided to search to see it other lens were available and to what cost. I typed in telephoto lens in a ebay search and was directed to a 2.2 multiplier that appears to screw onto the inside threads on the end of the 18-55 EFS lens supplied with the Rebel. Has anyone tried this with satisfactory results or is it a fools errand and should just look for a better lens instead?

The screw-on-the-front lenses are junk, and place strain on the lens.
Your Rebel can use any EF or EF-S lens ever made. While new ones are less and less available, used ones are plentiful, and from reputable used dealers who provide good warranties. B&H Photo Video is a top new dealer.

Get the EF-S 55-250. It will complement the range from the 18-55 and get you more than just 2.2X. The whole point of an interchangeable lens camera is to interchange the lenses.

It is not only a "fool's errand" those can damage your Canon lens. The lens is a weak point on Rebels so treat it carefully. Any twisting on the end of the lens is not a good idea and should only be done carefully and not often.
I had a T1i many years ago it did a lot of work for me. I am surprised you could still find good ones but glad you did. Brings back memories.

I just sold a beautiful T1i with the rare battery grip to UsedPhotoPro.com. Watch for it if you want one.

Don't buy it, it is a waste of money. Go for the lens.

No, Rebel days are over as is most of my photography work. Simply a hobby these days. I manage only two or three jobs a year now. And that is enough but I already have two senior shoots and it is only March.

Rebel, and DSLR days are NOT over. Having good, working DSLR gear and dumping it "just because" mirrorless has made it obsolete is crazy. Many of us do not need to "upgrade" to mirrorless. There is a lot of EF and EF-S still available new, and on the used market. I for one have no intention of "moving up" to mirrorless, having four DSLRs and 15 lenses. Mirrorless doesn't convince me I need to have it.

We DSLR guys need to encourage them to switch - flood the used market and give us a pool of equipment to choose from 😁. Drive down used prices.
