looking to purchase my first DSLR camera to take pictures of my sons sporting events

Mainly basketball and football.  Not looking to spend much over $1000.  Also best place to purchase.  I need all the help I can get!

Thanks for the info.  I bought the camera  for my wife for our anniversary but I have a feeling it will be me using it most often.  It will come with a 18-135 lens.  I feel it will cover most all of the family type photos we will take.  I am old school - have an older 35mm with several high end lenses.  This is the first digital SLR, so I'm pretty excited.   However, the Canon lenses are expensive.  I will be doing a lot of outdoor photography while duck hunting, fishing and camping.  I will have to start saving my pennies to purchase additional lenses.
