Shutter actuations for Canon 1Ds Mk III

How can I determine the total number of shutter actuations for my 1Ds Mk III ?  Does it really require getting some specialty software ?

http://eoscount.com/  will work on the 1Ds Mk III.  The 1Ds Mk III does not add the count to the EXIF so that is not possibile.

BTW, I wouldn't really worry about the shutter useage on a 1Ds Mk III.  Canon rates it at 300,000 but I have heard of them doing 1/2 a million.  A number that is not likely to be made by any non-pro shooter.  This is an extremely rugged camera.

Just go out and enjoy it.  Smiley Happy

Oh I'm not the least concerned what the count actually is. However, when trying to sell the camera on amazon, many people ask for the shutter count. "They" are very concerned because they don't want to spend a few thousand dollars on a nearly depleted shutter. I guess if I were the buyer I would want to know too.

Found today out that 1D III and 1Ds III have a shutter count tag in the image file. Thought 1D II N was the last camera with a shutter count tag in the image file.

Could somebody who owns a 1D III or a 1Ds III try to compare Eoscount vs uploading a raw file at Jeffrey's Exif Viewer?

I uploaded a 1D III raw file and the shutter count was exactly the same as the file number was, so I don´t think it shows correct. The 1Ds III raw file shutter count showed less than the file number. Also strange.

Peter where are you seeing this?  It shows 0 on my 1Ds Mk III

Upload a sample at Jeffrey's Exif Viewer and check down there.

I found raw files from http://www.rawsamples.ch/index.php/en/canon and uploaded them at the Exif Viewer.

But what number am I comparing it to?

You wrote on the first page "http://eoscount.com/  will work on the 1Ds Mk III."

So if you get the shutter count out from there from your camera and compare it with the Exif Viewer it would be interesting to see if it is same or not.

OK. I remember that but you said, "Found today out that 1D III and 1Ds III have a shutter count tag in the image file"

I don't think this is true?

I also think it isn´t correct, but the Exif viewer shows the shutter count tags for EOS 1D, 1DII, 1DII N, 1Ds, 1DsII and 1Ds III. No other camera from Canon. I heard Canon 1D II N was the last camera from Canon with a shutter count in the image file, but the same shutter count tag shows up in the viewer with 1D III and 1Ds III.
