For a Canon 80 D, can someone please tell me which data recovery software is capable to recover RAW pictures from a formatted SD card ? Preferrably free ?
I have tried Sandisk rescue pro, Recuver , Test Disk etc. , none of them works. Any idea ?

"For a Canon 80 D ..."
"Did you low level format the card?"
On the 80D, I believe the default format is a low level format. "Then I suppose the raw files are gone." Is correct, sorry.

I use the format function from the 80 D and I have no idea if this is a fast format or low level format.
The fact is that I can easily recover RAW files from a T3i using Sandisk Rescue after I format the card using the T3i in camera format function. This is not the case with a 80 D.
I have also tried using the same recovery programes under Win 10 which comes with codecs for 80D and failed.

"The default is fast format, not low level."
I seem to remeber that the low level format box comes up already checked. As the default, I can get an 80D later on today and check it.

I don't believe the low level format is on by default on the T3i. Regular format does not remove the files. It just opens up the location to R/W. So recovery is possible if nothing has been overwritten.

Turn on your 80D and check under the Tools tab and down four to Format. Is the low level check box checked? If it is, I think recovery is not possible to extremely difficult. If you send the SD card to Sandisk they may be able to recover some files.

Thanks ebiggs 1. I just check both of my camera and sure enough, low format check box was checked on my 80d that I haven't noticed it since day one. I uncheck the box in a hurry LOL.
So, case closed. The card was low level formatted, so hope is none to very slim chance to get the files back for free
I am sure Sandisk can recover them if I send in the card but the cost is not justified even though they seem to have good pricing. The lost pictures are from a family outing, therfore not a big deal.
Thank you all.

OK that is fine but remember when you get a brand new SD card you want to do a low level format. Even on a card is used after a while you still want to do a low level format. Just to keep things working smoothly.
