Lens Questions!!

I used to have a Sony a330 camera with a 18-55 & 55-200 (4-5.6) lens.  My new camera is a Canon EOS Rebal Sl1 with a 18-55mm & EF 75-300mm (1:4-5.6).  The 300 lens is great for taking from a distance, but I take a lot of pictures at my sons baseball games and sometime from the dugout.  The Sony 200 was pefect as I could get everything I wanted, but with the Canon 300 I can't zoom out enough to get the closer shot.  I want to get a 200, but not sure what to get!!  I was told by Canon that the 18-135, 24-105, 18-200, 55-250 and the 55-200 all work with my camera.  Will the Canon 18-200 or 55-200 work the same way my old 55-200 did with my Sony?    My biggest problem is all these different numbers for the lens confuse me!!

The Sony A330 is also a cropped sensor with a 1.5 crop factor (compared to the standard 35mm).  The SL1 has a 1.6 crop factor so they are very similar in reach.

The Sony 55-200 effective focal lengths would be 82.5mm - 300mm and the Canon 75-300mm would be 120-480mm.  So with the Sony, you can zoom out more (wider angle) but you can't zoom in as much as the Canon.  If you want wider shots than 120mm, you will need to sit farther away :).

So key is, take the lens's focal lengths and multiply by 1.5 for Sony, 1.6 for Canon and you will be able to compare field of view.  Good luck.

Yes, the Canon 55-200 will work the same way as your Sony 55-200 did. The Canon camera has a slightly smaller sensor than the Sony, so its field of view will be slightly smaller, but that shouldn't be particularly noticeable.
