I was looking at the M6 mark ii as a potential future camera for me (currently have a M50) but read some reports about the lack of the electronic curtain shutter first being an issue, causing softer images at certain shutter speeds when using the mechanical shutter. This potential issue was alto highlighted in the video and web reviews by DPReview. Is this really a big deal, a show stopper? I guess if it could be handled via firmeware update the opportunity would have been now, with the new release this week. Thanks for your thoughts

What would be the point of using a silent electronic shutter with a flash?
Buy the camera. Test it yourself. Send it back if you do not like it.
Personally, I would not be buying any of the M Series bodies if the intent is to use a flash or strobe with it.

Where did you get info about its lack ?
One of the main differences among EOS M6 and EOS M6 mark ii is that they addedd electronic shutter, despite having some restriction related to camera mode you choose, as you can see in the specification at page below.
