Re: Canon 70D died

[ Edited ]

Not to start the flames, but John did light the match. I am and have been a pro photographer since 1976 AND I've been using Canon the whole time, including a couple of years selling Canon retail. I own and actively use eight bodies and 15 lenses which I thoroughly researched, economically purchased and carefully maintain and use so I can pass value on to my customers. ANYONE who objects to being an active consumer is rolling over and merely wasting their own or their client's money and should probably stay an amateur. That said, my main motivation in standing against Canon's response to the 70D problems is I still think the Canon EOS system is the best out there and it deeply pains me to see them playing this kind of game with their loyal customers.

I've created a Facebook page and I hope you all join and let your voice be heard!

The page is called Canon error 80 USA

Thanks

Re: Canon 70D died

Thanks for creating the Facebook page. I didn't realize there are already a bunch of Facebook pages from other countries and one international dealing with this. I'd love to know who at Canon thinks ignoring, denying and lying about this is a good idea. Can't they just admit a faulty decision and recognize owner and brand loyalty is worth way more than ineffective efforts at dodging this?

Exactly! I loved that camera and had great respect for it. It was a lot of money for me.All communication with Canon has been cold and uncaring. Pretty much, "send it in and we'll send you a bill"...

Re: Canon 70D died

I have the same problem. 70D freezes up when trying to shoot video. Have to take the battery out to get the camera to shut off. After doing a lot of reshearch it seems that 1000's of people are having this same issue. Canon is Brazil issued a recall and is fixing this issue for free. Why isn't Canon USA offering to do the same. It seems to be a relay on the motherboard heats up and causes this lock up. It is a known defect on the 70D, not sure if other models have the same issue. I am waiting to hear back from Canon as to what my options are.

Re: Canon 70D died

Similar problem with my 6D. PCB Ass'y with li batt replacement-$500.  "loyality" program  offer not much savings so will probably fix.  Used Canons since 1982 AE1 and never considered switching but if this fix does not last, will probably change.

[Removed link per forum community guidelines] This is a video I found. I plan on trying to repair the motherboard myself because I can't afford to pay Canon over 450. for the repair. I just got a message from the company I ordered the motherboard from and they said they are out of stock. They sell out as soon as they get them, so there must be a big demand for them. Canon told me that they only had a very small percentage of failure and that this issue is rare, but I don't the same kind of issues with all the other models. It seems this freeze up while trying to video is a very real and common problem that Canon USA doesn't want to admit to having with the 70D.

Re: Canon 70D died

I agree, I had mine a year and a half very light use and took very good care of it and it died. Just got the bill $449. Is there nothing that can be done? You would think Canon would help with the labor part of the bill $209. I should have listened to my friends and bought a Nikon, oh well you live and learn I guess.

Re: Canon 70D died

Is it working fine after that? I have heard the problem never goes away permanently
