Canon 6d mark II autofocus issues with Tamron 24-70 f 2.8

Hey there!
I bought 6d mark II with new Tamron 24-70 f 2.8 lens. When I'm shooting in photo mode I keep having problems with the autofocus... I'm getting the "err 01" message. Not everytime. It's getting the "err 01" when I'm changing the focal lengt fast 24 to 70 for example, and when I'm trying to get focus fast. On video mode I got "err 70" several times and my video files who are broken because of that error are .DAT files and I can't restore them. I've updated the firmware of the camera but still. I went to the distributors here in Bulgaria and they just told me that they can send it in the service. A guy who is working the told me that I shoundn't shoot in HIGH SPEED SHOOING MODE and that was the reason for getting "err 01" in photo mode. I've tested the camera with different lenses (Canon 50mm f1.8 USM, the new Tamron 24-70mm f 2.8, Sigma 17-35mm) and I didn't have the message "err 01" in photo mode. I've tested the my 24-70 Tamron with the autofocus turned off and I didn't got the message "err 01"! That's making me think, that the new Canon 6d mark II has a problem with the old Tamron 24-70mm f 2.8.
And the problem is in the software or something like that.
I realy hope that problem is going to be solved realy soon with the next firmare update.
It's verry didisappointing because the same 24-70mm Tamron doesn't have the same problem with the 5D mark 4.

Probably because it needs a firmware update from Tamron. They have to reverse engineer the protocol to get their lenses to work with every camera.

I would not be surprised if Canon did not put little "gotcha's" in the communication to make it difficult for Tamron and Sigma.

I would. Smiley Frustrated  You don't really think so?

Just the fact that it keeps breaking with newer cameras.

At any rate whether they do or don't, this is a Tamron problem.  It is not a Canon problem.

I've used L series. I know how good it's. But still it doesn't have the stabilizer. And still it's crazy expensive. I realy like the L series but still the Tamron 24-70 f 2.8 it's great. I realy just don't find the answer... HOW IT'S WORKING WITH THE 5D MARK IV and it's having an issue with the 6D MARK II?! THAT'S MY QUESTION!

I believe the 6D2 is a slightly newer model than the 5D4, so Canon may have changed something. They'll try to make their cameras backwards compatible with their own lenses, but Tamron would have to fend for itself. AFAIK, no 3rd-party vendor has come up with enough money to induce Canon to license their lens interface technology; so the 3rd parties have to reverse engineer it, which greatly increases the risk of obsolescence.

It happens to me too. But i cannot replicate the problem often. I will try to change settings like "lens correction=off". let's keep us updated for a solution. The lens seems that has no firmware update

go6io94,

I don't think there is anything you can do about this

FW 1.03 for the 6D2 does not address lens compatibility.  It enhances hot shoe compatibility with 3rd party accessories.  v1.02 addresses CA with some 3rd party lenses..  unless you purchased your body at release, it will have v1.02 at minimum.

Tamron has not released any FW updates for the 24-70.

Still on v1 FW

I think you should still buy the Tap-In, but not until new FW is released for your lens.  Its $59 and will be money well spent once new FW is avavailable.  **** Just confirming the pieces others have mentioned earlier.

Hi, i have got the same problem.

Soon i will make some tests with my old 6D to see if it gave me the same error...

I have to check with more accuracy but maybe i have solved the problem with the 24-70mm f2.8 tamron with the last firmware of the canon 6d mark II : 1.0.4

Good luck!

Perhaps you missed it but Canon FW does not and never has addressed off brand lenses.  The Canon FW for the 6D or the 6D Mk II isn't the issue.  If you found a way or that it does work it, good, but it was not the Canon FW old or new.
