The "info" button on the back of your camera controls what the LCD will display when using the camera.

But the "info" button causes the camera to cycle between several optional displays... including the basic shooting info, the cameras's built-in digital "level", etc.  ONE of the optional modes is to simply keep the display switched off.  The display would still work if you used the "menu" button.

Does the display light up if you use either the "menu" button or the "info" button?

If not then there may be a worn wiring issue (since the display is hinged and swivels it can wear out).  The good news is it is serviceable if that's all it is.

And the removable eyepiece on the viewfinder is solidly in place and not pushed upwards a little?

nope...........its properly placed.

Hello govindarthi,

If the eyecup isn't blocking the IR sensor, the viewfinder is normal, and everything else seems fine, except the LCD screen isn't working, the next step is to send it in for repair.

If you're here in the USA, start the repair here on our site: http://Canon.us/xe47

Outside of the USA, head HERE to select your region/country and you'll find further support options from there.
