t4i and sharpness

Photos taken on my new t4i don't seem as sharp as they should be without correction, is there a setting to adjust?

This is a pretty open ended question/statement. It could be a result of technique, or settings. If you're shooting jpeg you can adjust the sharpness and contrast settings in the picture style menu. Posting an example would be helpful as it could be an issue with low contrast lighting or technique. If you have a UV filter on the lens I'd recommend taking it off as well as some cheaper filters create a noticeable degradation of image quality.

You can add sharpness in camera or at post processing.

Its not at all unusual that your pictures look not so sharp compare to a point and shoot camera that heavily adds sharpness in the camera. Giving a sample picture here as stated earlier, is very useful to objectly assess the sharpness.
