flash function unavailable on canon eos rebel t5i

I have a Canon EOS Rebel T5i and have recently been interested in shooting with flash. I googled my question and primarily got the answers I was looking for. Although once I tried what Canon suggested, the option to turn on flash in CA mode was visible but I could not select any of the three options. I have also tried clicking the flash button on the side of my camera but a window saying "this function is not selectable in the current shooting mode" popped up. Any ideas of what may be the issue?

thanks for any help

Use "P" mode.

Really?  How about using the green "A" mode, in a dimly lit room?  That should cause the flash to activate on its' own accord.  The flash should have been available in "CA" mode.

You may also wish to go into the menus to see if the camera is properly configured to use the internal flash.

I checked out the settings and changed it to what it was meant to be, thank you for the help!!
