Canon rebel and Windows on my laptop. Don't have original cord and disk and stuff from camera purchase

Canon software isn't required. Try a different USB cord. Some cords don't have all the pins connected.

Is it a later model Rebel?

computer says "could not find device software for your device" help!!!
