Zooming issues

We are having trouble with zooming in on items. We zoom in. When we look at the picture in the view screen. It looks far away. What do we need to do to the camera to get closeups. New to this as you can tell. Lol We take the picture and it looks far away in viewer We Have a Rebel T100 D3000

I think I understand what you are asking.

What you will get in the file when you take a photo is what you see when you look through the eyepiece viewfinder.

When you enlarge the image on the rear LCD screen you are not zooming in, you are just enlarging the image. It doesn't work like a smartphone.

This is a common issue when folks first come to a DSLR and are used to how a iphone works.

OK first things first here. You are looking at the LCD screen on the back of the camera?  And, you zoom that LCD screen? If that is true it is not the same as you are used to on your iphone. But one further question, did you get the standard kit lens with your T7? It is a 18-55mm zoom lens. Yes, no? You need to be zooming the lens.  Not the camera. You notice it has a zoom collar on it. Wherever that is set is how your picture will look.

Try using the viewfinder, the smaller window towards the top of the T7 and zoom that ring on the lens. Now you should see the subject enlarge or reduce as you zoom in and out.

BTW, make sure the AF/MF switch on the lens is set to AF before you take any shots.

She has done both (LCD screen and through eye piece) Also zoomed just lens and also zoomed camera and the same thing happened. Yes the lens kit came with it. Also did both AF and MF. The camera is a Rebel T100 not a 7

If you are talking about this camera at the link below....

...that camera does not have electronic zoom for capturing photos.  The only "zoom" is the optical zoom range of the lens mounted on the camera body.  The rear screen can "magnify" the image for viewing and focusing, but not for image capture.

That is impossible!  Sorry, but the camera will record exactly what the lens sees.  The only light that gets to the camera's sensor has to come through the lens. The only possible answer is the lens is broken if you zoom it and the picture does not change.

You can not zoom the LCD screen.  It is for the photographer info and settings control.  It does not take or make the photo.

Canon EOS Rebel T100 Digital SLR is very similar to its sister, the T7. We need to be talking the right camera.

Here is the test.  First rest the camera to default settings in the menus.  Clear all settings and all custom settings.  Very important to do this first.  Now set it to P mode.  Make sure it is P and not any other.  Set ISO to 200 and your WB to daylight.

The camera set on One shot. Make sure the lens switch is on AF and not MF. Now on a nice day go outside and take some random shots some with vertical lines in them like a fence or tree or building, etc.  Do not touch the focus ring!  But do use the zoom ring, in and out on various shots. You should have all different zoomed in and out photos.  All in good exposure. If you don't after doing this test exactly as I have laid it out the, camera and or lens is broken.

On this lens it is extremely important you never touch the focus ring while the lens is in the AF mode. Especially while it is focusing.

I see you had another thread on this forum with nearly the same issue.  What is it you expect from your gear? What you have will never zoom in on things that are very far away I.E. the Moon.  Not even much closer things like a bird. The very reason there is a DSLR is the ability to swap out and change the lens to a more appropriate lens. A super telephoto for a Moon shot as an example.

The standard kit lens that comes with you kit is for normal everyday things like family and scenery, events, etc. Do my test.

Neither, it is a physical limitation of the camera which can be easily (though not necessarily cheaply!) remedied by buying a telephoto zoom lens.
