T2i won't take a photo with the LCD on

My barely used T2I wont take a photo with the LCD on. I have tried it in every mode and reset settings but for some reason when I click the button to switch it to LCD view and try to take a photo it wont release the shutter. You can ONLY shoot through the viewfinder. Is this normal? I havent used this camera in a few years but dont remember this from before. Its so frustrating..

I have not tried the lens in manual focus. If/when the firmware finishes (its been 35 minutes) I will try that. I have tried it with both of my lenses the 70-200mm and my 28-135. This firmware is worrying me tho.. Its taking SO long!

OH NO! I came back to it and the screen was black. So I thought all is okay, now it wont turn on! CRAP!

Going to need service. I don't know if Canon still services the T2i..

If you are in US give Canon a call at 1-800-OK-CANON.
