I tried looking at the paperback manual of my Canon T6i about the metering timer. I can't find any information about how it works or what it does. Does anybody have an idea how the metering timer functions (not to be confused with the self-timer)?
Thanks regards.

AFAIK, it is two things. One is how long the exposure info is displayed once you lock exposure. (Press the shutter button halfway) The other is how long the AE lock operates when you press the * button. i.e., you only have as long as the metering timer to take an image with the locked settings.
I may be wrong about the second one, the manual is unclear, you might be limited to 4 seconds.
Note: the PDF manual has much more detail about obscure things like this.
