EOS Rebel SL1 flash doesn't work

PhotoMan-1

I've been using the Rebel SL1 for over a year without any problems. Suddenly, for no apparent reason, the pop-up flash will no longer pop up or fire. I have checked the settings and the flash is enabled. Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is?

Thanks!

Thanks for the reply. The flash on my SL1 will pop up in certain modes, but will just not fire. The link you sent suggested that this is a chronic problem with Canon cameras. I don't use the flash all that much, but in certain situations it (i.e., night portraits) it might be useful as fill light, and I don't like the idea of somthing not working right on my camera. I contacted Canon and they want $199 as a start to diagnose the problem, or $399 as a "loyalty menber" for a refurbished SL1. Ridiculous! I can get an SL1 body on eBay for about $250. Looks like I am stuck with a broken Sl1...
