Canon 2000D won't take pictures on manual

Hello there,
I bought my first ever camera a few days ago and everything seemed to be fine but yesterday I wanted to take a few pics on manual mode. It was not the first time since I bought the camera but this time it would not take the picture, the red light on the bottom of the camera would turn on, everything would go black and no buttons worked. I tried again today and it's still like that. When that happens the camera basically stops working even if I switch mode. But if I turn the camera off and then on again and go to any other modes, it works just fine. Have I done something by mistake and caused that or is it the camera's problem? Should I return the camera?
Thank you in advance.

What is your shutter speed? Could it just be taking a picture with a really long exposure? Or in "B" mode?

Oh you're right. My shutter speed was the problem. I wouldn't even have thought of it. I'm so new at this. Thank you so much.
