I'm planning an international trip about 12 days long to an area where I'll be unable to charge batteries. Will the batteries hold charge for that length of time?

Bring spare batteries. But, bringing lithium batteries aboard an airplane could be a problem.
If they are not used, then they should hold a charge. Temperature considerations aside, I would expect the batteries to lose 2-5% of their charge, per month. If you can bring along a voltage converter for your charger, then I recommend that you do so.

I would buy about 6. At least four and don't worry about it. Fully charge them all before you go. You'll be fine. However, it does depend on much use the SL2 gets.
