16:9 Aspect Ration With T3i Rebel

16:9 aspect ratio has been set with the menu along with (|M quality non-raw photos, but the jpeg images have a 3:2 aspect ratio. How can 16:9 jpegs be rendered?

You crop them after-the-fact.  When you take a photo, the camera is going to use the whole sensor.

Once on your computer, most editing programs will let you re-crop them to any size you want and many (possibly most) have some common aspect ratios so that you don't have to guess.

What do you use to edit and manage your images on your computer?

Thanks for the response. Canon answered and provided the same reply that a full size 3:2 image will be rendered. My problem is getting used to the new camera while learning to size the image for a 16:9 aspect ratio. Lightroom is used to process photos. It has the various aspect ratios built in.

The aspect ratio of 35mm film is 3:2 -- so the camera, being a digital equivalent, maintains the same 3:2 aspect ratio.

Picture frames and prints, on the other hand, use many different aspect ratios.  4x6" snapshot sized prints use the 3:2 ratio, but 5x7" desktop frame prints do not, nor do 8x10" etc.  Consequently, when you print, you usually have to check and possibly re-crop anyway -- so it makes sense to do it on the computer just before printing (or just before sending them to a service.)

As you learn and get more experience with the camera, you will also know to leave enough area around your shot for a good crop. Some folks forget or are not aware of this and wonder why their final prints are not what they wanted or intended.

This can be especially true if you use a low cost printing service. They usually don't take much (any) time adjusting the picture for greatness!
