I realize that Canon will not service a gray market camera under warranty but will service and repair such a camera as if it were out of warranty? That is, for money like any service shop?
I have never needed Canon warantee service because nothing has ever gone wrong with a year and rarely after that.
Thanks.

I never buy gray market but as far as I know they will service one for charge. Canon is a pretty forgiving company. Some could learn from and follow Canon's policies. We'd all be better off. They have no obligation to do so. Some of the other lens and camera makers won't touch one.
All you can do is call and ask.

Hi Canonperson!
Speaking as a Moderator, not as a Factory Service Technician, usually if the parts are available, we will evaluate the unit and let you know what the cost would be to repair it - barring liquid or extraneous impact damage.
If you'd like to set up your repair online, head over to http://usa.canon.com/repair
Or if you'd like to speak to someone in technical support, get in touch at 1-800-OK-CANON or http://bit.ly/ContactCanon
We hope that helps clarify things!
