loss of sharpness 100-400 using R5 and adapter

I have been noticing my bird shots are not as sharp as they use to be using the Control ring mount adapter EF_EOS R for the 100-400L vii lens. I decided to do a test comparison between the R5 and the 5Dm4. I kept all settings the same on both cameras. When I manual focused I used the LCD magnifier to be exact. At first I thought it may be the lens. But comparing between both cameras, I definitely see I get sharper photos with my 5D! Are we losing something when we put the adapter on? see the photos below. Is it the adapter? communication? Auto focus compare-1.jpgAuto focus compare-1.jpg

The pictures are pretty telling. I hope that’s not the case. I just ordered one and have a 5D mk iv and iii. Did you try a micro adjustment with the adaptor using a lens align tool?

5D IV 5D III R5, 500f4, 100-400 II, 70-200f4 IS, 85f1.2, 24-70f2.8, 16-35f4IS, 50f1.4, RF100-500. TC 1.4II, RF TC 1.4

It is impossible to do  Autofocus microadjustment (AFMA) with the R5 because it uses Contrast detection AF.

The R5 has an option for "Dual Pixel RAW" but I don't believe it is meant to correct for poor focus.

Was not aware as mine has not arrived. Good to know, quick question then, i had to micro adjust my 500 f4L on both my 5DMk3 and 5dmk4, now i am worried about the R5

This "test" appears to be fundamentally flawed.  I would ignore it.

Are these RAWs or JPEGS? Do they have the same sharpening applied? This is also a 30 MP vs a 45 MP. Is the magnification the same?

no post processing.

magnifications were the same

I say it is Operator Error.  Why haven't you posted the actual exposure settings?  Why the color differences?

Your posted images would suggest that they were shot at 400mm, with an aperture of f5.0.  That's not possible.

[EDIT]. I think you are seeing camera shake in the R5, BTW.  Operator Error.

no camera shake since it was on a tripod of course. I will repost with actual exposure settings.
