Zoom on digital live view with R50?

Title says it all. I do astrophotography as a hobby and recently picked up an R50 for general photography use after a long time using the T7. I am having a nightmare of a time focusing on stars because I can't digitally zoom in on them in the live view like one could with the Rebel T7. Is there a way to do this on the R50 or did Canon just kill off that feature? Thanks in advance, this is driving me crazy!

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Try this sequence of steps to zoom in to live view.

  • Press the AF point selection button on the back of the camera, it's the one below the "asterisk" button.
  • Then press the INFO button to zoom in. It should zoom in to 5x then 10x then back out to no zoom.

Alternatively you should have a magnifying glass icon in the lower right corner of the LCD screen. If you touch that you will also zoom in. This magnifying glass is not shown in all the different info displays that are possible, so if you miss it press the info button to select a display with the magnify icon.

You can find this in the manual here: https://cam.start.canon/en/C011/manual/html/UG-01_Preparations_0100.html

The above are the steps for the EOS R10 which I have in my hands, it is very similar to the EOS R50 which I have also used, but no longer have in my hand. The instruction manuals for both cameras do not describe how to zoom in like this.
