What's the best setting for the t5 in a low/dark light (party) atmosphere? New to all this, please help!!

The Rebel T5 begins to produce noisy images once the ISO gets up to 1600 and higher. 

 

It is possible to produce "long exposures" on the T5, or most any camera, by setting the camera to "Av" mode, and dialing in a low ISO setting.  Use a tripod and a remote shutter switch, or just use the 2 second timer.  The camera will open the shutter just long enough to capture an adequate exposure, which is neither too dark or too light. 

 

I have used this technique outdoors at night to capture car headlights as streaking ribbons.  Depending upon ambient light, I will set the ISO from 100 to 400.  But, I have never tried to do it indoors.  People would have to freeze during the exposure, or they will appear as blurs.  Maybe, just one person could freeze.......
