I have this old camera that still takes great photos at 3.2mp. I’m having a problem with the mode dial. The ridges around the perimeter of the dial are getting soft and leaves black on my fingers when turning the dial. Does anyone know of anything I could apply to firm them up.
I really should upgrade to something more recent but it still works great.
thanks Mark

Sometimes using a rag dampened with isopropyl alcohol to wipe the rubber part will help.

Thanks I’ll give that a try and report back.

Bought Canon EOS 30 (Elan 7E) last week. The grip was sticky and my hands became all black. I used isopropyl alcohol and wiped the rubber part. As new.

I recommend using isopropyl alcohol as well.

I did use the ipa and it did remove the stickiness with no apparent harm. Thanks all for the suggestions.

The alcohol may even dissolve/remove the rubber. Then you eliminate the problem.

Did someone change the title from D30 to 30D?

Yes, Our camera is the EOS 30D, so one of the moderators corrected it in the title!
