How do I convert movie files to be burned to a dvd so that my dvd player can read it?

I am having trouble with burning movie files to a dvd. My dvd player is unable to read the info. Can someone tell me how to convert the movie files? Thanks

Hi! I have Windows xp, and my camera is Canon 5d Mark iii. I have cyber link that burns my DVDs and I never had a problem when I was using my Nikon, so I know it's just a format issue, I just don't know how to convert it. And I'm not computer savvy at all. Thanks!!

I use DVD Flick. Decent file converter and, as I recall, it's free.
