Help with Air dropping photos from my new Canon 7D

My new 7D saves pictures as cr3 files and when I airdrop them from my MacBook Pro to my iPhone and try to forward them in a text message no one can open them.  How can I change the format to cr2 on the camera or does this have to be done on the computer?

You can’t change .CR3 files to .CR2 files. You can convert the .CR3 to JPG and then they can be sent and read on almost every device; computer, phone, tablet etc.

You can use Canon DPP or Lightroom to convert the files, though even Apple photos will do it for you. JPG files are smaller and easier to send too.
