EOS Rebel T7 zooming on LCD doesn't result in zoomed image on card

I don’t know if this is the right community, but I have an EOS T7 with a Canon EF 50mm lens. When I use the camera’s zoom button, I see the camera zoom in on the subject via the viewer, but the resulting photo shows the subject unzoomed.

I am assuming you are shooting in live view mode and using magnified view for focusing, this is just a focusing aid and does not affect image capture.  The T7 doesn't have a zoom feature without using a zoom lens so the image will be captured at the focal length of the lens.

i.e., There is no "digital zoom" on the T7.

You will need to crop in post.

If this is something you do often, an actual zoom, like the EF-S 18-135 or EF-S 55-250 might meet your needs better and give you better quality, since cropping lowers the resolution, while an actual zoom will yield all the pixels your camera can provide.

Zooming to take the picture is a function of a zoom lens. You don't HAVE a zoom lens.

You are confusing zooming with magnifying the image on the memory card when viewing it. Or, as was said, magnifying the image in Live View mode.

Ok, got it. Makes sense. I'll start doing a little market research on zoom lenses that work with the T7.

Got it, cropping does work pretty well, so thanks for the tip. I'll take a look at the EF-S 18-135 and EF-S 55-250 lenses.

And even with those lenses you still won't be able to zoom using the buttons on the back of the camera. Zooming with a DSLR requires turning a ring on the lens barrel.
