I just read the T3i cannot autofocus in video mode, true?
On T5i can the shutter speed be set when taking video? Sometimes I need fast shutter so fast moving objects are not blurred.

Hi erokc!
Thank you for posting.
The EOS Rebel T3i can autofocus, but it works the same as when you are shooting still images. You need to activate autofocus every time you want the camera to focus the lens and before you start recording. Continuous autofocus is not possible.
When shooting movies in manual on the EOS Rebel T5i, the shutter speed, aperture and ISO can be set manually.

After spending the required time studing the specs and asking questions I deceded spend more money and buy the T5i. I just received David Busch's book on the T5i. I took it to bed last night and read until my eyes closed.
I previously made a few shots and a couple of videos. Very pleased so far.

broke,
If I could offer a suggestion, download a copy of your T5i manual in pdf format. It's free.
Using a pdf reader like Adobe Acrobat, you can search for answers to specific questions. It will make your life a whole lot easier, and you won't have to consult your manual with your eyes closed. 😊

Does the T3i allow you to set the shutter speed and ISO in video mode? I use it for astrophotography and an object like Jupiter in my telescope generally requires a 1/60 second exposure at ISO 1600. In video mode it is very overexposed. It looks like about a 1/2-1 second at a very high ISO setting. I can process it extracting all the individual frames and adjust the gamma and gain so that it comes out right, but it would be nice to see it looking the way I want it in the first place.

RebelDog,
As I understand it, put your camera in video mode, and then hit your Menu button. Your first option should be Exposure Mode. Set it to Manual and hit your Set button. This should allow you to make all the same setting changes that would do as if you were shooting stills.

Thanks! You've saved me many hours at the computer post processing images.

Oh, yeah! Is that from the manual? I guess I should sit down and read the whole thing. Kind of stupid I never thought to check there. I guess I was just thinking that it wasn't an option and wanted to know for sure before buying a programmable video camera- which would likely have been heavier than a Rebel hanging off the prime focus or eyepiece holder of the telescope.
