EOS R5 Mark II sync speed confusion

Bazsl
Rising Star

The R5 Mark II user guide shows the following conflicting information for full frame sync speed.

Does anyone know which row (page) is correct? FWIW, I use a non-Canon (Godox) speedlight. Thanks.

Sorry for the duplicate post but my table was trashed when I clicked on Post the first time.

Yes there are different sync speeds depending on the use of other features.

The fractional parts of the shutter speed relate to the use of high frequency anti flicker shooting with flash.

The sync speeds for most cases are:-

  • Mechanical - 1/200
  • Electronic 1st curtain - 1/250
  • Electronic - 1/180

When using certain Canon Speedlites listed in the manual and the sync speed priority function is used

  • Electronic 1st curtain - 1/320 or 1/400 in 1.6x crop mode
  • Electronic - 1/200 or 1/320 in 1.6x crop mode

In the case of the crop modes the shutter has to cover less distance so the speed can be faster.

In my view there are some inconsistencies in the manual as page 192 and page 204 contradict as does page 1215.

Thanks for the clarification, Brian. The part about high frequency anti-flicker was not clear to me at all.

My Sync Speed Priority is grayed out,  Any idea why?

Sync speed priority works with specific Canon Speedlites.

Check the note on this page in the HTML manual

https://cam.start.canon/en/C017/manual/html/UG-03_Shooting-1_0100.html

Note the points about shutter mode cannot be mechanical, and that only the following Speedlites being compatible
Speedlite 430EX III / 470EX-AI / 600 EX II-RT / EL-100 / EL-1 / EL-5 / EL-10
Macro Ring Lite MR14-EX II / Macro Twin Lite MT-26EX-RT
