When zoom in it focuses but when zoomed in it doesn't work

Generally speaking, when you zoom in to something, it means that your are approaching your 200mm range. When you zoom out, it generally means that you are approaching your 55mm range.
Do you mean that when you are at your 55mm range, the camera isn't focusing? All lenses have a minimum focusing distance. If you are too close to something, the camera won't focus. Are you trying to focus on something that is real close to you? If so, try backing up a little bit.
