EOS 250D switch to turn the camera from OFF to ON to RECORD is not functioning properly.

Hello, I’m not sure if this is the correct area for this.. I’m new to this whole forum thing, and google is of no help for my issue.

I am new to photography. I have had my camera (250D) for almost a year now. I don’t know what happened, but my switch to turn the camera from OFF to ON to RECORD is not functioning properly. The camera is ON when the switch is in the OFF position. And in RECORD when the switch is in the ON position, and keeps on the RECORD when in RECORD.
In October and November I had my camera with me on some hunting trips and the camera performed beautiful. But today I pulled my camera out ( I keep it in a padded bag ) to take some pictures and the battery was dead. No problem, didn’t think much of it. Until I put a full charged battery in and the camera came ON when it should have been OFF. I put it in OFF position and took battery out for a few minutes, still is ON when it should be OFF. The camera still can take pictures, and functions as it should, other than the switch issue.

Has anyone ever come across this problem before? How do I go about getting it fixed? Will this be a precursor to more issues down the road? Any help and or advice is very much appreciated!

Since the 250D is a non-North America body you should contact canon support for your region. They can advise you if repair is required.

I didn’t realize there were different body models. Guess I never thought about it. I just assumed it was North American because that’s where it was bought and that’s where I live. 😬 I guess I need to learn more about my camera.
Thank you!

The 250D is the European version the Rebel SL3 is the North American version. If you look at the camera - on the front, there's a badge on it that will tell you which model it is.

Well. It is indeed the EOS 250D..

Dang, learn something new everyday! 😅

That's odd, for sure! I'd recommend touching base with support to ensure it's working as it should. They're at 800-OK-CANON (800-652-2666), Monday through Saturday.

Who did you purchase from? Sounds like gray market.

It was a Christmas gift from my husband last year. I don’t know where he bought it from, it was an online purchase because we live in the middle of nowhere Wyoming.😅

It will be the same camera as a US version, which would have Rebel in the name. Only potential problem would be warranty coverage by Canon USA. Cannon does have a reputation for being very accommodating, but outside of the moderators none of us work for Canon. Contact Canon support by phone and discuss with them.

Hi ADArt,

I ran in the exact same problem with my 250D/SL3 today 😞

I know this post is almost a year old but yours is the only other instance of this problem that I could find, so if you happen to read this I would be very interested to hear if and how your issue was resolved?
