Canon xsi shooting really bright pictures

My canon xsi is shooting really washed out and bright pictures. It is in automode and almost every picture looks like I am shooting a picture of the sun. I can control it when shooting in manual mode and I do not mind shooting in manual but my wife like to use the camera a lot and she can't. I tried shooting in manual mode the other day and setting the ISO to auto once again it washed out the picture, I then set the ISO to 100 and the pic was perfect. The camera set it to ISO 400 even know I was at a pool on a bright sunny day. Any ideas?

Hi Chrismaccullen!

Thanks for posting.

Please reset your camera to the defaults by doing the following:

  1.  Press MENU.

  2.  Select the [Tools #3] tab.

  3.  Select [Clear Settings].

  4.  Select [Clear all Camera Settings].

  5.  Select [OK].

Now, remove the battery from the camera for about 10-15 minutes or so before putting it back in the camera and powering it on.  If the pictures taken still come out extremely overexposed, the camera may need to be serviced.

To start the repair process, you'll need to complete a Repair Request on our website.
